Serving in the Worship Service on Sundays

It takes many people to bring worship services to our visitors and congregation. If you feel a calling to participate, here's a snapshot of different ways to help.

To learn more or get involved, please contact Ross Cummings, Worship Commission Lead at ross@rcdrafting.com

Acolytes

To enhance worship by assisting the ordained clergy and others during the conduct of the service.

Boys and girls in 6th grade or older that have received training and continue to honor Christ in their life and ministry around the altar.

Chalicers

To enhance worship through oral interpretation of the lectionary readings and lead in the Prayers of the People. Requirements for serving around the altar are: that a person be a confirmed communicant of Epiphany in good standing, have undergone training as a Chalicer and continue to lead a life that honors our Lord.

Lectors

A lector is trained in the reading of the Word and is appointed by the clergy to read lessons and initiate the Prayers of the People.

The lead lector prepares and maintains the schedule of readers for each Sunday and assures reading is consistent with the practices of Epiphany. Lectors rotate on a scheduled basis in reading the lessons and leading the prayers during the worship service.

The Altar Guild

The Altar Guild's mission is to serve God by preparing and maintaining the articles used in the worship life of the parish, under direction of the clergy.

The Altar Guild strives to help the worship life of the parish run smoothly. Our duties include: Draping the altar with the appropriate hangings for the season. Setting up the altar and communion vessels prior to each service. After each service, cleaning and storing the items used. In general, maintaining the articles used in the worship life of the parish in good order.

Requirements are that a person be a confirmed communicant in good standing at Epiphany, receive training in the duties and responsibilities of the Altar Guild and lead a life that honors Christ.

Audio Visual - Sound System Operator

The Audio/Visual Ministry's mission is to provide a pleasant sound and visual experience to the congregation during the services and other church events, and to help project God's words by recording and distributing audio and video information.

Run the sound system approximately once per month at the service you normally attend.

During the service you listen to the music and adjust the sound levels to put a pleasant mix out to the speakers for the congregation. This is done in the sound booth at the far back corner in the church.

All you need is a good ear. You will start by sitting with an operator until you are comfortable. Then you will run the sound at a service with a current operator at your side. When you are ready, you will be scheduled to run the soundboard by yourself.

This ministry is mainly done during the service, so if you support a service that you normally attend, there is very little extra time required. If you help at the 8:00 am service, you do need to be there 20-30 minutes ahead to turn on and set up equipment. If you help at the 10:00 am service, you need to turn the equipment off after the service.

Not only will you be contributing your time and support to the church, but you will learn how a sound system is established for a church, how to run a mixer, how to record songs, and how to add sound effects when needed. This is a great job for someone who is interested in music and/or in home recording studios.

Tellers

To faithfully collect and accurately count the financial blessings given to Epiphany so that the church may fulfill its mission. Anyone can serve as a Teller. Basic mathematical abilities are all that is needed.

Tellers collect monetary contributions from parishioners during the worship service, count the offertory, and make the deposit at the bank. Tellers serve at the 10:00 service only.

Ushers

A layperson that welcomes worshipers into the Sanctuary and provide assistance as necessary.

Ushers greet and welcome congregants prior to the service, assist those in need and offer direction to classrooms and other church facilities, accept tithes and offerings, maintain an orderly flow of people during communion and assist with seating when necessary. The ushers also monitor the children returning from Children’s Chapel and help with locating parents, keep a count of attendance, and clean up following the service.

Ushers are parish members who are adults or older youth. Couples and parent child teams emphasize the family nature of Epiphany. Ushers must be willing to serve when scheduled and share people’s joy in the Lord during the worship.
